CTET) 2024 - 10 things to know with detail
  • CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) is a national level examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for candidates aspiring to become teachers in central government schools like Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas.
  • The CTET exam is conducted twice a year - usually in July and December. However, the schedule may vary, so candidates are advised to regularly check the official CTET website for updates.
  • The CTET exam consists of two papers - Paper I for candidates aspiring to teach classes I to V (Primary stage) and Paper II for candidates aspiring to teach classes VI to VIII (Elementary stage). Candidates can also choose to appear for both papers.
  • The eligibility criteria for CTET include a minimum educational qualification of a senior secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) or Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) for Paper I. For Paper II, candidates should have a graduation degree and a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education or Bachelor of Education (B.Ed).
  • The CTET exam pattern includes multiple-choice questions (MCQs) with four options, out of which candidates have to choose the correct answer. Each question carries one mark, and there is no negative marking for incorrect answers.
  • The CTET syllabus includes topics like Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I and II, Mathematics, Environmental Studies, Social Studies, Science, etc., based on the paper chosen by the candidate.
  • Candidates can apply for the CTET exam online by visiting the official website and filling out the application form. The application fee can be paid online through various modes of payment.
  • CTET admit cards are released on the official website a few weeks before the exam date. Candidates must download and print the admit card to appear for the exam, along with a valid photo ID proof.
  • The CTET result is usually announced within six weeks of the exam date on the official website. Candidates can check their results by entering their roll number and date of birth.
  • Qualifying the CTET exam does not guarantee a job but makes candidates eligible to apply for teaching positions in central government schools. The validity of the CTET certificate is seven years from the date of declaration of the result. Candidates can also improve their scores by re-appearing for the exam in subsequent years.
