JEE Adv - 10 things to know with detail
  • JEE Advanced is the second stage of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) conducted for admission into the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
  • Only candidates who qualify in the first stage of the exam, JEE Main, are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced.
  • JEE Advanced is considered to be one of the toughest engineering entrance exams in India, testing students on their knowledge of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
  • The exam is conducted once a year by one of the IITs on a rotational basis. The exam is usually held in the month of May or June.
  • JEE Advanced consists of two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2, each of which is of 3 hours duration. The papers are conducted in online mode.
  • The exam pattern of JEE Advanced includes multiple-choice questions as well as numerical answer type questions. There is negative marking for incorrect answers in the multiple-choice questions.
  • To be eligible for admissions into the IITs, candidates must secure a rank within the top 2,50,000 in JEE Main and also meet certain other eligibility criteria set by the IITs.
  • The IITs offer various undergraduate courses in engineering, architecture, and technology. Admission to these courses is based on the JEE Advanced rank obtained by the candidates.
  • Apart from the IITs, some other institutes also use JEE Advanced ranks for admission into their engineering programs. These institutes include the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).
  • In addition to preparing for JEE Advanced, candidates are also advised to focus on their problem-solving skills, time management, and revision strategies to perform well in the exam. It is important to practice previous year question papers and take mock tests to assess one's preparation level.
