NTA NEET - 10 things to know with detail
  • National Testing Agency (NTA) is the conducting body for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). NEET is the entrance examination for undergraduate medical and dental courses in India.
  • NEET is a highly competitive exam with lakhs of students appearing for it every year. It is considered one of the toughest entrance exams in the country.
  • The exam is conducted once a year and candidates have to qualify NEET to secure admission in medical and dental colleges across India.
  • NEET is a pen-and-paper based exam consisting of multiple choice questions. The duration of the exam is 3 hours.
  • The exam is divided into three sections - Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany and Zoology). Each section carries equal weightage.
  • To be eligible for NEET, candidates must have completed 17 years of age at the time of admission or will complete the age on or before December 31 of the year of admission.
  • Candidates must have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as compulsory subjects and have secured a minimum of 50% marks (for general category) in aggregate in these subjects.
  • NEET is the only entrance exam for admission to MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS, BSMS, and other medical courses in India, except for AIIMS and JIPMER which conduct their own entrance exams.
  • The NEET score is accepted by all government and private medical colleges in India. It is also accepted for admission to medical colleges in countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, and others.
  • Preparation for NEET requires dedication, hard work, and a structured study plan. Candidates are advised to practice previous years' question papers, take mock tests, and revise regularly to score well in the exam.
