NEET Exam - 10 things to know with detail

• Full form of NEET: NEET stands for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. It is a national-level entrance exam conducted in India for admission to undergraduate medical and dental courses in government and private medical colleges.
• Conducting Authority: NEET is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
• Eligibility Criteria: To appear for NEET exam, candidates must have completed 17 years of age at the time of admission or will complete the age on or before 31st December of the year of admission. They must have passed Class 12 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects.
• Exam Pattern: NEET exam is conducted in offline mode (pen and paper-based) and consists of 180 multiple-choice questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany and Zoology). The duration of the exam is 3 hours.
• Syllabus: The syllabus of NEET exam is based on the topics covered in Class 11 and Class 12 of the NCERT curriculum for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
• Marking Scheme: Each correct answer in NEET exam carries 4 marks, while each incorrect answer results in a deduction of 1 mark. There is no negative marking for unanswered questions.
• Reservation: As per government regulations, a certain percentage of seats in medical colleges are reserved for candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC, and other categories. There is also a provision for reservation for Persons with Disabilities (PwD).
• Qualifying Marks: To qualify NEET exam, candidates belonging to the general category need to score a minimum of 50th percentile, while candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC categories need to score a minimum of 40th percentile.
• Counseling Process: After the declaration of NEET results, candidates who qualify the exam are required to participate in the counseling process conducted by the respective state authorities or the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) for All India Quota seats.
• Validity of NEET Score: The NEET score is valid for the same academic year in which the exam is conducted. Candidates can use the NEET score to apply for admission to various medical colleges across India.
