Explain SSC GD in 500 words
SSC GD (Staff Selection Commission General Duty) is a national level exam conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) to recruit candidates for various posts in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), National Investigation Agency (NIA), Secretariat Security Force (SSF), and Rifleman (General Duty) in Assam Rifles.
The SSC GD exam is highly competitive and attracts a large number of candidates from all over the country. The selection process consists of a computer-based written examination, physical efficiency test (PET), physical standard test (PST), and medical examination. The written examination is the first stage of the selection process and is conducted online.
The SSC GD written exam consists of four sections - General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Knowledge and General Awareness, Elementary Mathematics, and English/Hindi Language. Each section carries equal weightage of 25 marks, making it a total of 100 marks. The duration of the exam is 90 minutes. The questions are multiple-choice based, and there is negative marking of 25 marks for each wrong answer.
The General Intelligence and Reasoning section tests the candidate's ability to think logically and solve problems. It includes topics such as analogies, similarities and differences, spatial visualization, spatial orientation, visual memory, coding and decoding, etc. The General Knowledge and General Awareness section focuses on current affairs, history, geography, economics, politics, science, etc. The Elementary Mathematics section assesses the candidate's knowledge in topics like number systems, decimals, fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion, profit and loss, time and distance, etc. The English/Hindi Language section evaluates the candidate's proficiency in grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, and basic language skills.
Candidates who qualify in the written exam are then called for the physical efficiency test (PET) and physical standard test (PST). The PET consists of events like running, long jump, and high jump, which test the candidate's physical fitness and endurance. The PST includes measurements of height, chest, and weight, which should meet the required standards set by the SSC.
After clearing the PET and PST, candidates have to undergo a medical examination to ensure they are medically fit for the job. The medical examination includes various tests like eye sight, hearing, dental health, general physical examination, etc.
Once the candidate clears all the stages of the selection process, they are eligible for the final merit list. The final merit list is prepared based on the candidate's performance in the written exam, PET/PST, and medical examination. The selected candidates are then appointed to the respective posts in the CAPFs, NIA, SSF, or Assam Rifles.
The SSC GD exam provides a great opportunity for candidates who aspire to serve in the armed forces and contribute to the security and well-being of the nation. It requires dedication, hard work, and thorough preparation to succeed in this exam. Candidates should stay updated with current affairs, practice previous years' question papers, and focus on improving their physical fitness to increase their chances of success.
