Explain African Union in 500 words
The African Union (AU) is an international organization that was established on 26th May 2001 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and launched on 9th July 2002 in Durban, South Africa, with the aim of replacing the Organization of African Unity (OAU). The AU consists of 55 African countries, making it the largest pan-African organization, with its headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The African Union was formed with the primary objective of accelerating the process of integration in the continent, to enable Africa to play its rightful role in the global economy while addressing multifaceted social, economic, and political problems. Its vision is to build an integrated, prosperous, and peaceful Africa that is driven and managed by its own citizens and represents a dynamic force in the global arena.
