• JEE Mains is a national level entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to various undergraduate engineering programs in NITs, IIITs, and other centrally funded technical institutions.
• The exam is conducted in two stages - JEE Main and JEE Advanced. JEE Main is the first stage and is a computer-based test consisting of multiple-choice questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
• JEE Main is conducted four times a year - in February, March, April, and May. Candidates can choose to appear for any or all of these sessions.
• The exam pattern for JEE Main includes a total of 90 questions (30 questions each from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics) to be completed in 3 hours. Each correct answer carries 4 marks, and each incorrect answer results in a deduction of 1 mark.
• The eligibility criteria for JEE Main includes passing the 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Candidates must also have secured a minimum of 75% marks in the qualifying exam or be in the top 20 percentile in their respective boards.
• The JEE Main score is used for admission to NITs, IIITs, and other GFTIs (Government Funded Technical Institutes). It is also the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced, which is the gateway to admission in the IITs.
• Apart from engineering programs, JEE Main scores are also used for admission to architecture courses offered by NITs and other institutions. There is a separate paper for B.Arch aspirants that includes questions on mathematics, aptitude, and drawing skills.
• The JEE Main counseling and seat allocation process is conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) for admission to NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, and other participating institutions. Candidates need to register for JoSAA counseling to participate in the seat allocation process.
• JEE Main is highly competitive, with lakhs of students appearing for the exam each year. As a result, it is essential for students to prepare thoroughly and practice previous years' question papers to improve their chances of success.
• Along with studying the syllabus thoroughly, candidates should also focus on time management and maintaining a balance between all three subjects. Regular practice and mock tests can help in improving speed and accuracy, which are crucial for scoring well in JEE Main.
