Guru Gobind Singh, born as Gobind Rai, was the tenth and final Sikh Guru. He was born on December 22, 1666, in Patna, India, and played a crucial role in shaping Sikhism into a distinct and powerful religion. Guru Gobind Singh's life and teachings continue to inspire millions of Sikhs around the world.
Guru Gobind Singh's father, Guru Tegh Bahadur, was the ninth Guru of the Sikhs. He was known for his bravery and sacrifice, as he stood up against the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb's religious persecution of Hindus and Sikhs. Following his father's footsteps, Guru Gobind Singh became a fearless warrior, poet, philosopher, and spiritual leader.
At the age of nine, Guru Gobind Singh was appointed as the tenth Guru after his father's martyrdom. He faced numerous challenges during his time as Guru, as the Mughal Empire continued to oppress and suppress the Sikhs. To protect his followers and their faith, Guru Gobind Singh established the Khalsa, a community of initiated Sikhs who were committed to living by the highest moral and ethical standards.
In 1699, Guru Gobind Singh initiated the Khalsa by performing the Amrit Sanchar, the Sikh baptism ceremony.
