Andy Beshear is the current Governor of Kentucky, having been elected in November 2019.
He was born on November 29, 1977 in Henderson, Kentucky. His father, Steve Beshear, also served as Governor of Kentucky from 2007 to 2015.
Beshear graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and anthropology. He later earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law.
Before becoming Governor, Beshear served as the Attorney General of Kentucky from 2016 to 2019.
As Attorney General, Beshear focused on issues such as protecting consumers from scams and fraud, addressing the opioid crisis, and defending the rights of Kentuckians.
Beshear ran for Governor in 2019 as a Democrat, defeating incumbent Republican Governor Matt Bevin in a closely contested race.
One of Beshear's key campaign promises was to expand Medicaid in Kentucky, which he has followed through on since taking office.
Beshear has been a vocal advocate for education funding and has worked to increase teacher salaries in Kentucky.
