CTET - 10 things to know with detail
  • CTET stands for Central Teacher Eligibility Test, which is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in India.
  • The CTET exam is conducted twice a year, usually in the months of July and December, to determine the eligibility of candidates for teaching positions in central government schools like Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas.
  • There are two papers in the CTET exam - Paper 1 is for candidates who wish to teach classes 1 to 5 (Primary level) and Paper 2 is for candidates who wish to teach classes 6 to 8 (Elementary level). Candidates can also appear for both papers if they wish to be eligible for teaching classes 1 to 8.
  • The CTET exam is conducted in offline mode (pen and paper-based) and consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Each correct answer carries one mark and there is no negative marking for incorrect answers.
  • The CTET exam syllabus includes subjects like Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I and II, Mathematics, Environmental Studies, and Social Studies, depending on the paper chosen by the candidate.
  • To be eligible to appear for the CTET exam, candidates must have a minimum qualification of a senior secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) or Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) or equivalent.
  • The CTET certificate is valid for a period of 7 years from the date of declaration of result. Candidates can appear for the exam again to improve their score or validity of the certificate.
  • The CTET exam is highly competitive with a large number of candidates appearing for it each year. It is essential for candidates to prepare thoroughly and practice previous year question papers to increase their chances of success.
  • CTET qualified candidates are eligible to apply for teaching positions in central government schools as well as private schools that consider CTET certification as a mandatory requirement.
  • CTET is an important certification for aspiring teachers in India as it validates their knowledge and skills in the field of teaching and increases their employability in the education sector. It is advisable for candidates to stay updated with the latest information and guidelines related to the CTET exam to ensure a successful career in teaching.
