Cricket live - 10 things to know with detail
  • Format: Cricket can be played in three main formats - Test matches, One Day Internationals (ODIs), and Twenty20 (T20) matches. Test matches are played over five days, ODIs over 50 overs per side, and T20 matches over 20 overs per side.
  • Teams: Cricket is played between two teams, each consisting of eleven players. Each team takes turns at batting and bowling.
  • Batting: The aim of the batting team is to score runs by hitting the ball and running between the wickets. The batsmen can also hit the ball to the boundary for four runs or over the boundary for six runs.
  • Bowling: The aim of the bowling team is to dismiss the batsmen and restrict the opposition's runs. Bowlers can take wickets by getting the batsmen out in various ways, such as bowled, caught, or lbw (leg before wicket).
  • Fielding: The fielding team tries to prevent the batting team from scoring runs and taking wickets. Fielders can catch the ball, run out batsmen, or stop the ball from reaching the boundary.
  • Innings: In a cricket match, each team has an innings to bat and bowl. The team with the highest total runs at the end of the match wins.
  • Overs: In limited-overs matches like ODIs and T20s, each team gets a set number of overs to bat. An over consists of six deliveries bowled by the same bowler.
  • Runs: Runs are scored by the batting team through hitting the ball and running between the wickets. Runs can also be scored through boundaries (four or six runs) and extras like wides and no-balls.
  • Wickets: Wickets are the main focus of the bowling team, as they need to dismiss the batsmen to restrict runs and win the match. A team has ten wickets in an innings.
  • Umpires: Umpires are responsible for officiating the match, making decisions on the field, and ensuring fair play. There are two on-field umpires who make decisions on the field, with the help of technology like DRS (Decision Review System) in some matches.
