• JEE Main is a national level entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to undergraduate engineering programs in NITs, IIITs, and other centrally funded technical institutions.
• The exam is conducted twice a year, in January and April, and students can choose to appear for either one or both sessions.
• JEE Main consists of two papers - Paper 1 for admission to B.E./B.Tech courses and Paper 2 for B.Arch/B.Planning courses. Students can choose to appear for either one or both papers based on their interests.
• The exam pattern for Paper 1 includes multiple-choice questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, while Paper 2 includes mathematics, aptitude, and drawing sections for B.Arch/B.Planning courses.
• JEE Main is considered one of the toughest engineering entrance exams in India, with lakhs of students appearing for the exam every year.
• The eligibility criteria for JEE Main includes a minimum of 75% marks in the 12th board exam or being in the top 20 percentile in the respective board exams for general category students. There are relaxation criteria for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates.
• The exam is conducted in online mode (Computer Based Test) and is of 3 hours duration for Paper 1 and 3 hours 30 minutes for Paper 2.
• JEE Main scores are used for admission to NITs, IIITs, and other centrally funded technical institutions, as well as for qualifying for JEE Advanced for admission to IITs.
• The exam syllabus is based on the NCERT curriculum for classes 11 and 12, covering topics from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
• JEE Main counseling and seat allocation is done through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) for NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, and through state counseling for admission to state engineering colleges.
