JEE Advanced - 10 things to know with detail
  • JEE Advanced is the second stage of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for admission to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and some other top engineering colleges in India.
  • Only candidates who have cleared the JEE Main exam are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. The top 2.5 lakh candidates from JEE Main are selected to take the JEE Advanced exam.
  • JEE Advanced is conducted once a year by one of the IITs. The exam is usually held in the month of May.
  • The exam is conducted in two parts - Paper 1 and Paper 2. Both papers are mandatory and are held on the same day. Each paper is of 3 hours duration.
  • The JEE Advanced exam consists of multiple-choice questions as well as numerical answer type questions. The exam tests a candidate's understanding of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
  • The exam is known for its difficulty level and the competition is extremely tough. Candidates need to have a thorough understanding of the concepts and good problem-solving skills to crack the exam.
  • The exam is conducted in online mode and candidates are required to mark their answers on a computer screen.
  • The results of JEE Advanced are declared in the form of a rank list. Based on their ranks, candidates are allotted seats in the IITs and other participating institutes.
  • Candidates who qualify in JEE Advanced are eligible to pursue undergraduate courses in engineering, architecture, and science at the IITs and other top engineering colleges in India.
  • Apart from the IITs, JEE Advanced scores are also accepted by other prestigious institutes like Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), and Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST).
