  • Sunita Williams is an American astronaut and United States Navy officer of Indian-Slovenian descent. She was born on September 19, 1965 in Euclid, Ohio.
  • Williams holds the record for the longest space flight by a female astronaut, spending a total of 322 days in space during two missions to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2006 and 2012.
  • She was selected as an astronaut candidate by NASA in 1998 and completed her training in 2000. Williams made her first spaceflight in 2006 as a flight engineer on Expedition 14 to the ISS.
  • During her time on the ISS, Williams conducted multiple spacewalks and set a record for the longest spacewalk by a female astronaut, lasting for a total of 29 hours and 17 minutes.
  • In 2012, Williams returned to the ISS as a member of Expedition 32/33, where she served as commander of the station. She also participated in the first live Google+ Hangout from space during this mission.
