Devlin Hodges - 10 things to know with detail
Devlin Hodges was born on April 12, 1996, in Kimberly, Alabama. He attended Mortimer Jordan High School where he played quarterback for the football team.
Hodges played college football at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. He set numerous school records during his time there, including career passing yards and passing touchdowns.
Despite his success at the college level, Hodges went undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Hodges made his NFL debut on October 13, 2019, in a game against the Los Angeles Chargers. He entered the game in relief of injured quarterback Mason Rudolph and led the Steelers to a victory.
Hodges became known as "Duck" Hodges due to his love of duck hunting. The nickname stuck and he embraced it, even wearing a custom-made duck hunting hat during interviews.
In his first start for the Steelers on November 24, 2019, Hodges threw for 212 yards and a touchdown in a win against the Cincinnati Bengals. He was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance.
Hodges started a total of six games for the Steelers during the 2019 season, finishing with 1,063 passing yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions. He helped lead the team to a playoff berth.
Despite his success as a rookie, Hodges faced competition for the starting quarterback job in 2020. The Steelers ultimately chose to go with Ben Roethlisberger as their starter, relegating Hodges to a backup role.
Hodges was released by the Steelers on September 5, 2020, but was re-signed to the team's practice squad a few days later. He was elevated to the active roster later in the season due to injuries to other quarterbacks.
As of the 2021 season, Hodges is currently a free agent. He has worked out for several NFL teams and is looking to continue his professional football career.
