Synagogue of El Transito
The Synagogue of El Transito is a 14th-century synagogue located in Toledo, Spain. It is one of the most important examples of Sephardic architecture in the world. The synagogue was built in 1356 by Samuel ha-Levi, treasurer to Pedro I of Castile, and was used by the Jewish community of Toledo until their expulsion in The synagogue is noted for its ornate Mudéjar-style architecture, which combines elements of Islamic and Jewish design. The synagogue is composed of two floors, with the main prayer hall on the upper floor. The prayer hall is decorated with intricate stucco work, and features a large ark for the Torah scrolls. The synagogue also contains a museum, which houses a collection of artifacts from the Jewish community of Toledo.
