Shirakawago

Shirakawago is a small, traditional village located in the mountainous region of Gifu Prefecture, Japan. It is best known for its traditional gassho-zukuri farmhouses, some of which are more than 250 years old. These houses are characterized by their steeply pitched thatched roofs, designed to withstand the heavy snowfall of the region. The village is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a popular tourist destination, especially during the winter months when the snow-covered roofs create a picturesque landscape. Visitors can explore the village and its many attractions, including the Wada House, the largest of the gassho-zukuri houses, and the Ogimachi Castle ruins.
