Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty is a colossal neoclassical sculpture located on Liberty Island in New York City, New York, United States. The statue, designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and dedicated on October 28, 1886, was a gift from the people of France to the people of the United States. It is a universal symbol of freedom and democracy, and stands at a height of 151 feet (46 meters) from the ground to the tip of the torch. The copper statue, which is a representation of the Roman goddess Libertas, is a welcoming sight to immigrants arriving from abroad. The statue's pedestal, designed by American architect Richard Morris Hunt, is made of granite and stands at a height of 154 feet (47 meters). The statue is a part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument, which is administered by the National Park Service.
