Zakynthos, also known as Zante, is a Greek island located in the Ionian Sea off the west coast of Greece. It is the third largest of the Ionian Islands and is the most southerly of the group. The island has a long and varied history, having been inhabited since the Neolithic period and having been ruled by a number of different powers over the centuries.
