History
Thessaloniki, the second largest city in Greece, has a long and rich history that dates back to the 4th century BC. It was founded by King Cassander of Macedon in 315 BC and named after his wife, Thessalonike, the half-sister of Alexander the Great. The city quickly grew to become an important port and trading center, and by the 1st century AD it was the most important city in the Roman province of Macedonia.
Geography
Thessaloniki is the second largest city in Greece and the capital of the region of Central Macedonia. It is located in the northern part of the country, on the Thermaic Gulf of the Aegean Sea. The city has a population of over one million people and is the economic, industrial, commercial, and cultural center of the region.
