St. Peter's Basilica
St. Peter's Basilica is a major basilica in Vatican City, the papal enclave within Rome, Italy. It is the burial site of Saint Peter, one of Jesus' twelve apostles and the first Bishop of Rome. The basilica is considered the greatest of all churches of Christendom and is the most renowned work of Renaissance architecture. It is the largest church in the world and its dome is the tallest dome in the world. The basilica is decorated with numerous works of art, including Michelangelo's Pietà and his dome, as well as Bernini's baldachin. It is also the site of the Papal conclave, the process by which a new pope is selected.
