It was designed by Alfred Waterhouse and constructed between 1868 and The building is a Grade I listed building and is one of the most important examples of Gothic Revival architecture in the United Kingdom. The building is located in Albert Square and is the ceremonial headquarters of Manchester City Council. It is also used for civic functions, such as the Lord Mayor's annual banquet, and is a popular tourist attraction. The building features a grand entrance hall, a large concert hall, and a number of smaller meeting rooms. The building is decorated with a variety of sculptures, stained glass windows, and other decorative features.
