Victoria Memorial

The Victoria Memorial is a large marble building in Kolkata, India, which was built between 1906 and It is dedicated to the memory of Queen Victoria (1819–1901) and is now a museum and tourist destination under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture. The memorial lies on the Maidan (grounds) by the bank of the Hooghly River, near Jawaharlal Nehru Road. The memorial has a grand architecture, which is a combination of British and Mughal styles. It is built of white Makrana marble, and its gardens are adorned with fountains, lawns, and flower beds. The memorial houses a number of galleries, which display a variety of artifacts, including paintings, sculptures, manuscripts, coins, and other objects related to the British Raj. It also has a library, which contains a collection of books and documents related to the history of India during the British rule. The Victoria Memorial also hosts a number of cultural events throughout the year, such as music concerts, film screenings, and art exhibitions.
