The Kyoto Imperial Palace is a large park-like area located in the heart of Kyoto, Japan. It was the former residence of the Emperor of Japan until the Meiji Restoration in The palace grounds are surrounded by a large stone wall and feature a variety of buildings, gardens, and courtyards. The main palace building, the Seiryo-den, is a large two-story structure with a tiled roof and a large central courtyard. Other buildings on the grounds include the Shishinden, the Imperial Household Agency, and the Imperial Household Office. The palace grounds also feature a number of gardens, including the Ninomaru Garden, the Kyakuden Garden, and the Sento Garden.
