Temple of Apollo - Delphi - Greece
Temple of Apollo
The Temple of Apollo at Delphi is an ancient Greek temple located in Delphi, Greece. It was dedicated to the god Apollo and was the most important temple in the ancient world. The temple was built in the 6th century BC and was the site of the famous Oracle of Delphi. The temple was built on the slopes of Mount Parnassus and was surrounded by a sacred grove of laurel trees. The temple was constructed of marble and limestone and featured a large, open courtyard with a colonnade of Doric columns. Inside the temple was the adyton, or inner sanctum, where the Oracle of Delphi was said to deliver her prophecies. The temple was destroyed by an earthquake in 373 BC and was later rebuilt by the Romans. Today, the ruins of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi are a popular tourist attraction.
