St. Barbara's Monastery - Meteora - Greece
St. Barbara's Monastery
St. Barbara's Monastery is one of the six monasteries located in the Meteora region of Greece. It is perched atop a sandstone rock pillar, and is one of the most impressive sights in the area. The monastery was built in the 14th century and is dedicated to St. Barbara, the patron saint of artillerymen. It is a stunning example of Byzantine architecture, with its white-washed walls and red-tiled roofs. Inside, visitors can explore the chapel, the refectory, and the cells of the monks. The monastery also houses a museum with artifacts from the Byzantine era. Visitors can also take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape from the monastery's terrace.
